Background and Qualifications

Arthur G. Sachs joined MetLife in 2007 after twelve years as a financial adviser and financial planner with Professional Planners Group. His financial services career was born after a successful twenty-five-year career as a financial and administrative executive and consultant in magazine publishing, which included being the chief financial officer of Time. During that time, colleagues and friends frequently asked him for help with their financial affairs because he was “a financial guy who could explain things.”

For the past fifteen years, Art has primarily helped individuals plan for wealth accumulation and protection of income at retirement and for the wealth preservation of their estates. He has also helped small business owners to implement profit sharing, retirement savings, group life and group disability benefit plans, and healthcare plans for themselves and for their employees.

Art graduated from Harvard College and attended Harvard Business School. He earned the Life Underwriters Training Council Fellow designation (LUTCF) upon completing the required courses in financial planning, estate planning, and insurance needs analysis. He is a member of the Financial Planning Association, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, and the Society of Financial Service Professionals.

Art has been married for 41 years; he and his wife, Mary, have three adult sons and live in Manhattan. He sings with the University Glee Club of New York City, an all-men's group founded in 1894, which performs at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center each year. He is a former member of the choir of St. John's Church, Washington, Connecticut.

In 2003 Art retired as president of the board of directors of the Bloomingdale School of Music, a community music school on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, having served twelve years as president. He has also served as clerk of the finance committee and treasurer of the Farm and Wilderness Foundation, a Quaker-based nonprofit organization that runs summer camps and year-round outdoor education programs in Plymouth, Vermont. He is currently president of the board of directors of his cooperative residence in New York City.
